Web Marketing 101
Web Marketing 101

You can make a living, and a good one, with a web marketing business. Many people are doing just that. It’s not something that will bring instant success, nor is it easy to implement. (Many so-called “gurus” would claim the opposite, of course). It will take a lot of hard work and nurturing, especially in the early days.

It will take work and lots of time, and the more time spent putting a good foundation in place, the better guarantee there is of future success. For a newbie Internet Marketer, there is a bewildering variety of products that can be promoted as an affiliate, or information products (eBooks) for which you can buy “resell rights”. It can be a daunting and a time-consuming process to sift through all these, and choose something for which there will be a demand .

But whether you are promoting a merchant’s product as an affiliate, or you have your own product to sell, you should note 2 basic, essential points (It goes without saying that I’m assuming you have your own website):

1. You need to get visitors to your site

2. You must build an ‘optin list’

No.1 will funnel into no. 2 as the visitors to your website are drawn to whatever free offer you are using , to get signups for your list.

You can succeed in web marketing without a website or a list, but it’s an uphill struggle. Just two of the ways are:, you can promote an affiliate product and drive traffic to the vendor’s website, or you can set up an ebay shop.

But in most cases, a web marketing business means having a website on which you can make sales, get signons to your list, and to which you add frequent, relevant content.

Have a look at your home page and give an honest assessment – is this a site that I would want to spend some time on, if I were a visitor? What do I find appealing about it (or not). With a little work to make the site more visitor-friendly, and visually pleasing, you will have visitors that stay longer, with the result that they are more likely to purchase your goods or services. You should position your list optin box in a prominent place, like the top left or top right, under the header area. And it should be offering a free resource in return for a lst sign-up.

Your aim should be to get return visitors. If you can bring visitors back to your site, it will help to steadily increase incoming traffic. What brings visitors back is fresh content that is updated regularly. Even if it’s just a few extra lines added to your blog, it is much better than leaving it for weeks, or months, without updating. The the search engines will pick up on any new content, and you ranking will improve.

Another useful tool you can use is the “trackback” – this is where you make mention of another, similar blog on your own blog, by placing a hyperlink to it, in the text of your review or synopsis of the other blog. This improves your “visibility” to the search engines, and topotential customers.
