Nothing on the internet gives more website owners more advertising options than Google Adwords. Pulling the entire internet out of the crash of the’90′s, Adwords has evolved to offer a multitude of user-friendly tools to reach the internet’s largest search audience while making sure ad budgets are well spent. Largely due to Google Adwords, the internet has become the world’s fastest growing hub of commerce, and the single best place for entrepreneurs to search for customers and sales. Before you build your own profit dynamo with Google Adwords, however, there are some basics you need to know.
It only takes five minutes to sign up for Adwords (http://www.adwords.com) from your Google account. You can fund your Adwords for just $10. When you log into Adwords for the first time, one thing you will notice is that there are many options. Don’t start your campaign by playing with Adwords display options. Start your campaign by choosing your keywords.
There are excellent services for finding keywords, and you can use them on a trial basis for a week for free. But the best keywords are ones you think up yourself. Why? Users judge your site on content, not keywords. And to a large extent, Google’s page ranking algorithm does, too. Just because a keyword promises to bring in a lot of traffic does not mean you should use it. In fact, overusing any word in your content can hurt you, and hurt you a lot.
That’s why you brainstorm to create your own unique list of keywords. Think of what makes your pages the absolute best on the net. Think of what makes your content stand out. That’s where you will find your keywords. Once you have a list, and 10 words and phrases is enough, then and only then use the Adwords keyword selection tool. What the keyword selection tool can do for you is to tell you which keywords that describe your content are being actively searched on the web. Any word or phrase that has a high search volume and low competition is a good place to start your campaign.
Even if the keyword selection tool suggests hundreds of high-search, low-competition keywords, keep your list to just 10 to 15. Using more than 15 keywords, you will have too much data to analyze as the results of your Adwords campaign begin to come in. You need to be sure your hard-earned ad dollars are being well spent. You can’t do this if you have too many keywords to track.
Adwords budgets are set in terms of dollars per day. For instance, if you set your budget at $50 a day, Adwords will never run more than $50 worth of ads in any single 24-hour period (although occasionally they may run one click over). You can set your account to run ads throughout the day at an even rate, or just spend the money as fast as possible, up to your daily limit.
With Google Adwords, you have total control over how your ads appear. You control when they appear. You control how much you pay for a click and where your ads are displayed. As you learn to use all these tools in ways that drive your traffic and generate sales, Google Adwords will prove to be your most useful tool for growing your site and your profits.
