Do I still need a merchant account to use google check out to accept payments online?

Basically I want to know if I can use Google Check out without having to apply for a merchant account.

Yes with every company you will need to because they obviously need to protect themselves and they do this by having a merchant account. A better option might be going with a more competitive credit card processing company who offers better rates then google. They tend to take more because it isnt their big focus.
