I Will Build Your Downline For You…And Other Untruths My Upline Fed Me

I had a disturbing call recently with a prospect. I was speaking with a relative newbie the other day. I asked her what her struggles were with her Network Marketing business. She responded, as many do, that getting leads was a struggle.

She had come to that extremely familiar dead end many newbies reach when they embark on their MLM enterprise without a stitch of marketing training. She had joined the NFL Club. She had “No Friends Left.” No friends left to prospect. No family left to prospect. The proverbial MLM newbie dead end.

What is she to do now? Where on earth will she find new MLM leads?

Here’s where the disturbing part comes in. I had begun to give this newbie some ideas, strategies and tools to create her own free leads by leveraging the internet when she told me this.

I inquired about the kind of training her upline had given to her. How did they instruct her to get leads. She let out a big sigh and expressed her unhappiness with her upline. They had not lived up to their promise.

What on earth was that promise?

It seems her upline had promised her that if she signed up at the “highest” level (read: most expensive) in this company, that they would populate her downline with tons of reps for her. Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.

I get truly upset when I hear stuff like this. Sadly, there are some unprincipled network marketers out there who will sign up anyone that’s breathing and say what they have to in order to get their money.

Here is what I’m getting at. Network marketing is NOT a get rich quick scheme. There is no instant formula for MLM success. You must make an effort to grow your business. You must apply and commit yourself. It takes time. Building any kind of business takes time.

Yes, there are ways to shorten that time significantly. Learning how to leverage the internet is one of them. And that takes training. And commitment. You can build a HUGE Network Marketing business online (or offline) with proper marketing and recruiting training and a commitment to be serious about it. A commitment to treat it as a business and not a hobby. Remember, a business pays and a hobby costs.

The lesson here is this. If you are being told that someone else is willing to do all the work for you and you just have to sit back and collect the enormous checks, you’re being taken. If you’re told that all you have to do is sign up 2 or 3 reps and then just sit back and watch that matrix fill up, you’re being fooled.

Think with your head not with your bank account. Don’t let someone seduce you into this easy money mentality.

If you truly want to build a real Network Marketing empire, you must be sure your company gives extraordinary training. Training that includes something beyond prospect anyone with a pulse. A truly great Network Marketing company should offer fantastic training in prospecting as well as lead generation. More than anything though, marketing.

Most importantly, decide to sign up with your upline because you feel they’re giving you an honest assessment of what it takes to really build a successful business in their company. They should be interested in you because of the talent they see in you, not merely because you’re a warm body with a Visa card.

So, trust your instinct. There are many amazing opportunities out there. Many ways to make a 6 and 7-figure income in Network Marketing. Find a proper mentor who can show you the way, and you will have the prosperous business that you deserve!

If you want to commit to your business and avoid the lies in Network Marketing, it\’s not hard.
