What is behind the use of term like “network marketing scam” & “lead generation scam”?
Having involved myself in the profession of network marketing for well over 20 years I can make the following factual statement. Until the mid nineties, when the Internet arrived on the scene, the only time I have ever hear the word “scam” which (if you check the definitions at ftc.gov) is is no way connected to network marketing, was in connection with Pyramid schemes and Ponzi scams.
In any event, the other term that was wholly unfamiliar prior to that same time, was ‘lead generation’. People in network marketing did not need to know about lead generation because network marketing was still for the most part, a part-time business. Something people did on the side for extra income. Now of course there were a few exceptions, but on the whole that was the landscape.
The arrival of the Internet changed everything. A new breed of independent business person emerged and millions of people all across the world chose network marketing as a career. Along with that, the lead generation industry was born. It was necessary to meet the demand for customers and potential distributors.
In over 20 years, I never personally met anyone who had really been ‘scammed’ by network marketing or even in lead generation. For most of these people, the reality is that they didn’t do the things they were supposed to. They didn’t learn the lead generation techniques necessary for success. Now, they want to blame someone else and so they turn on the companies and label them as scams.
People in these same companies, who are able to master the lead generation problem are often able to succeed and build profitable businesses.
The key then, is to avoid believing the myths and not catching the bird flu…
You must find a company that has products that resonate with you. Also, a person to partner with who can show you where to get the tools that will teach you how to master the lead generation. (without this you won’t succeed)
