What Do You Understand By Search Engine Algorithm

March 3rd, 2010

In order to optimize your website, you have to understand the Search Engine Algorithms. You might not believe you need to learn this information, but to get the best results from a Search Engine it will be needed, and the results will increase your visibility and web traffic. This is why you need to understand how the search engine functions.

Search engines rank WebPages. This is a key part in learning how to get more visibility and traffic. Understanding the rankings, and why a competitor may be ranked above you. If you understand this information you can change your position and end up with the best search engine results. This increased traffic and visibility should drive customers to your business and mean that a larger profit is in store.

The users of any search engine are not like the ordinary business customers but are different. You would not expect a person to walk onto a car dealership and simply blurt out ?Car? and the salesman knows exactly what type of car the customer wanted. On the other hand search engines have to work with something like this; any users will insert a keyword or phrase and expect results (list of links/sites on web) that have the occurrence of this word/ phrase.

In the early period of the net, before the texts became astronomical, it was the main component to the search engines. Nowadays if you placed a text example of “printer driver“ it would bring out millions of results. But the search engines now use advanced algorithms to choose the best and more suitable results.

The two key factors in searching the web are content analysis and linkage analysis. To provide a result quicker and to easily determine the search, the web is broken down into different communities of information. Since the users want the results fast, the search algorithms have to evolve more and more everyday to keep up with the high demand and the abundance of information.

The main goal of any website is to be on the top list of all search engines. Some search engines will cache a portion of the page, but some others will index down your every word. So it is important that all the information on your site is informative, useful, and current, and matches the theme of your site. If you understand how the search engines index and sort the web pages, you can soon bring your webpage come out in the top results.

The search engines try to give the best results, thus pleasing the user, by considering the page rankings on the web pages that they deem to be the best. When other sites are linked to your site it will increase the vote for your site and the search engines will consider this when calculating the page rank.

Search Engine Optimisation Hype Log

February 26th, 2010

There is a great deal hype in the Search engine optimization industry probably because it is a techno field plus is very competitive so everyone is attempting eyebrow everyone else and get the upper edge.

Being in my antiquated 40\’s – hippy 1965 baby to be exact – I have been around the IT industry well before most of the current players were out of diapers. I was there in our computer room when they unveiled the latest hard drive – it looked like a modern day top-loader washer and was the same size! All up it held a \’breath-taking\’ 40 Meg of data. Yes that is right 40 Meg! When we saw the new micro PC\’s come out we felt they would never take off (we must have had IBM blood in us!) and the IT journey went on from there.

Today my \’long teeth\’ dip in my beer and my eyeballs roll back in their sockets when I hear some of the hype plastered around the Search engine optimization playing field.

Yes Search engine optimisation can be specialized but only usually after you got it completely wrong in the beginning – your internet site that is. If you did not engage a good Search engine optimisation advisor to provide you with the run-down BEFORE you started building then you probably finished up with a web site punctured with a zillion SEO holes. These websites can take some fixing for sure. The majority of web developers do not know anything with regards to SEO and what they do know they almost never put into action due to the fact they are not requested to by you! Not hiring a great Search engine optimisation advisor is like creating a 3 storey residence without using an architect and engineer and expecting the builder to get it right – no way.

I come across a good SEO site once in every 100 websites. It is a terrible track record for web-developers. Every other single site is a ship full of holes sinking in the lower regions of page 196 of Google!

So apart from adding some vibrant pros to this piece I suppose I should add some substance. Well here it is – short and simple (well maybe not that short!)

Content is King

Google makes use of back-links a lot at the moment to judge a web sites popularity. However, it\’s now quite simple to generate backlinks of good quality in large volumes to unbalance the ranking game. Google knows it\’s got to find the right way to balance this out. When it does, most people\’s position will probably come crashing to the floor overnight.

On the other hand, Google always wants QUALITY content material – the best it can display. If you have this, then because content is the only reason why we have search engines in the first place, your site will usually do well regardless of what twists and turns Google puts its search engine algorithms through.

Under no circumstances ever forget that content rules within the SEO jungle. Forget at your peril.

We battled to get content material on customers internet sites for so long until we built it into our Search engine optimisation ranking packages. We now offer a content and back-linking service (SEO.SIMPLE.) that solves this inherent problem. Now our clients get fresh unique content on their web sites weekly and gain ranking results from it seeing it is Search engine optimization optimised as well.

Your content delivery engines needs to be well tuned

Don\’t think that you can simply just add content to a webpage and miss out on the platform you happen to be adding it to. Google wants to make sure that the content material is not just the best for the keyword and key phrase requested, but it also delivers the best user experience. So be sure to cross your T\’s and dot your SEO eyes when it comes to ensuring your internet site delivers the very best experience such as performing these :

Make sure your server is quick – Google not too long ago added this one – upgrade right now if it takes too long to load your internet pages

Ensure ALL images have ALT tags WITH purposeful content material

Make sure every page has a UNIQUE page title relevant to the content of the page

Fix Canonical problems (were http://www.yoursite.com and http://yoursite.com and http://www.yoursite.com/index.php etc all resolve to the same page but have different addresses. Instead they should all redirect to a single page and that page should be utilised throughout the site in all links. If you are on a UNIX based server this can be fixed quickly usually through the htaccess file)

Make sure there are a minimum of 300 words of meaningful textual content on any web page – the more the better for Google

Make certain that if you are using a Website cms that the URL\’s are fixed so only words show up (and preferably keywords) and not funny programming expressions and numbers

Whenever you create a link use a keyword(s) and not the notorious \’click here\’ as the anchor text

If you cannot add content to your site (maybe you have a flash site), then at the least add a weblog attached to your website – this helps a great deal

When you next renew your current domain, renew not less than 3 years – of course longevity shows maturity and increases trust

Backlinks and more back links

And lastly do not stop back-linking. Right now it is the powerhouse for Search engine optimisation but do not rely on this for the future.

So I hope this has helped \’de-hype\’ some of the Search engine optimization materials available and helped you along the Search engine optimisation road a little bit further.

No Follow Link Explained In Basic Terms You Can Understand

February 25th, 2010

The no-follow link is used to give directions to search engines in order to exclude hyperlinks influencing the ranking of search engines index. It helps in reducing the spam in the search engines results.

This concept was designed by Google in 2005 in order to remove the spam that can possibly get through to the search results while searching with keywords in the search engines. This do not block the web content but avoid the data to be indexed by search engines.

Hyperlinks that include the rel=?no follow? attribute will not influence the links target page rank. Although this was a Google design and is copyright owned by Google lots of search engines have began using the attribute value as well such as, Yahoo, Windows Live Search, and Bing.

Rather than not follow the link in a literal since, search engines are supposed to not catalog the link in their databases. The page will remain operable and still load without material being blocked. This is just away to prevent the indexing of spam that appears as a result to the search. Google suggest that the no follow link be enacted in a literal sense where the link will not be followed at all. However, in reports conducted for the SEO different information was discovered. Here it was determined that the links did work but was not indexed to the page it linked to. For Yahoo this means that link will be followed but not taken into consideration in its ranking considerations. MSN Search has yet another variation where the no follow link is neither counted nor followed. The definition of the no follow link will differ from site to site.

Major Weblogs as a routine of submitting links with no follow attribute. There will not be any options to change it as well. Some programs though gives trusted users the options to change. And others may allow the writer to submit the way they write it and later remove the unwanted links to be manually removed.

Web owners are protected from unwanted content being on their site by no follow links. Blogs or forums are added to sites in attempts to generate new material to their site and to help boost the overall rating of the site. No follow links permits bloggers to post links but prevents these links from affecting the page. This is a great tool as a page may drastically plummet in its ranking if negative or offensive links are added.

The no follow links is used as a machine readable disclosure for the links that have paid for the services by Google. Whether the No Follow link is safeguarding or hurting the web owners is still a dilemma and the owners are pondering over it as many pages are paying for links to be traded. The no follow link is constantly under contradiction by SEO and it totally depends on the web owner to allow or reject them in their site.

SEO Training

February 20th, 2010

SEO is a tremendously specialised area of internet marketing. There are a lot of asserted experts yet the proof of the pudding comes when a business can consistently rank different types of sites from diverse industries in different search engines. A top flight SEO company will have a range of skill sets available in its team if it is to be successful.

However, training is very distinct. Someone that is great at obtaining results may not be effective at transmitting to others how they can get results.

Many SEO trainers are hands on SEO optimizers and they do not have a professional IT training background.

Here are 5 tips to take note of when picking out a great SEO training company.

ONE:

Ask the SEO company if their trainers are SEO professional people as well as experienced IT trainers. Do they have the ability, know-how and skill to deal with individuals in a classroom situation so that the trainees can fully gain from their SEO skills?

TWO:

Does the SEO trainer have practical hands-on experience of ranking numerous distinct types of websites on Google, Yahoo and MSN – can they show you the results! Or is the trainer a script instructor – they learnt from a book all the hypotheses but have not learnt the hard cold facts about SEO in the SEO \’jungle\’. Will they be able to fetch to the table the help skills to solve YOUR issues on YOUR website? It\’s a simple issue of asking.

THREE:

What commercial scope does your SEO trainer have? Have they an extensive web development background so that they can cover all the core areas that they need to help you rank and learn about ranking your website. A top flight SEO expert teacher should have 2+ years\’ web development skills in both HTML and programming languages combines as a minimal.

FOUR:

Does the training come with any follow-up support? Like all training – on the day everything is easy – after the course when you get back the story is different! What after training support is offered by the SEO training company in writing so that you know you will be able to integrate your training effectively.

FIVE:

What is the company\’s current ranking on Google? Have you checked what their current ranking is for keywords like SEO, SEO training, SEO services etc? If they are not on the 1st page or the top of the 2nd page in the local Google site then maybe they are doing training too early before they have established themselves properly. So go check their rankings right away or just ask them!

Fundamental Concepts Of SEO

February 20th, 2010

A search on any search engine for a popular keyword yields thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of results. In this scenario, the techniques which enable a company to appear in the first few results for a search using a specific word is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Coming within the first few results on related and important searches increases the number of people who are directed to your website and therefore you do more business. That is the reason why SEO has become so significant.

There are two types of SEO – white hat and black hat. Black hat SEO entails somewhat unethical means to get a website to the top of the search rankings. In contrast, white hat SEO follows all the principles laid down by the search engines and concentrates on the techniques which are commonly approved of.

To connect a specific web page to a particular keyword, the search engines earlier utilised the Meta data of the page that has been made a part of the code of that page. However, key search engines now utilise intricate algorithms to show the results that are filtered on the basis of over 200 varied factors.

SEO consultants constantly try to guess the significance of different factors that play a role in the search algorithms and stay abreast with the advancements that search engines make. This knowledge assists them in improving the SEO strategies for their customers to propel them to figure in top results of popular keywords. When the search results were only dependent on Meta data and the content of the web page, this task involved optimizing the Meta tags of the web pages and making sure that the keyword density of each page was just appropriate.

Although these aspects are critical even today, the popularity of the web page is now more important as far as the search engines are concerned. The number of links referring to a web page suggests the popularity of that web page. This method is democratic in essence, where each link is similar to a vote for the specific web page. Because of this, now SEO has to concentrate on offsite techniques as well, such as offering content for free to receive inbound links and developing a presence on online mediums for social interaction, such as blogs, forums etc.

You should always keep in mind that SEO is a continuous and dynamic process. SEO techniques are constantly getting updated to the changes happening in the field of online search. This is what makes utilizing the services of a professional SEO consultant so critical.
