How To Learn What Twitter Is All About

September 26th, 2010

For a long time I’ve been avoiding the Twitter phenomenon. That is, until recently. A fellow associate of mine encouraged me to join and even explored some of the reasons why I hadn’t done so. I simply told him that I didn’t quite understand the need to Tweet and the real purpose of using Twitter. With some reluctance, I signed up for an account.

Using Twitter starts with getting online and logging in every day. A friend turned me onto an application that allows me to make the most of a number of different Twitter functions. By using these tools and having hands on experience, I’m finding that Twitter provides a number of valuable resources for my day to day activities.

After having some time getting used to Twitter and what it can do for me, I quickly learned the benefit of a far reaching social media tool. Having interest in tasks related to my job, hobbies, and other activities, I found large numbers of Twitter users who share the same interests. This is great for identifying a support group of other users who can discuss ideas and from whom you can learn a great deal. The other thing that’s so amazing is that you can get access to celebrities that are using the tool as well. They write about their lives and even share a personal anecdote from time to time. Twitter gives you a direct line to many people you thought weren’t within reach. This really does a lot to bring us closer to one another.

As I explore my hobbies, I am finding others who are also learning about a particular topic or leisure area. They share great tips and information that save me tons of research. I’ve even built a small following of similar individuals and as a result can share what I know with them. Sometimes they respond directly and other times they pass on my tip or information to others. This is called re-tweeting and will likely be used by people in common speech rather soon.

The greatest benefit of connecting with other with whom you chose is that you can filter the information and respond when the mood strikes. By using applications that allow you to prioritize Tweets or search for specific conversations, you can quickly see benefit in the information that’s being shared. Often times, individuals include links to valuable content and information that they have come across on the web. This is both useful and time consuming when related to a particular need you may have.

The truth is that I was not an early adopter of social media for a number of reasons. Now that I’ve gotten some experience with Twitter and other social media tools, I better understand my initial reluctance to jump on board. I avoided social media because I simply didn’t understand it. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I’d never be able to fully appreciate it until I actually used it. Now that I have, I clearly see the value.

How Book Authors Sell Their Books Through Twitter

September 24th, 2010

Authors have to be constantly on their toes with creative ways to market their books. Today there are very many avenues open to them from audio to video to social media and article directories. A multi-prolonged approach is exactly what you need.

Your targeted audience has all different kinds of individuals even though they may want the same type of material. Some read, some listen to audio books and others tweet.

You will need to come at them creatively to their preferred venues as all the above media can be perceived as different meeting grounds.

Twitter is one of the most utilized social networks that you can use today to market your new books. Here are three pointers to help you along your way.

1. Make your book signings known – A lot of authors have gone for their book signings only to find nobody there at the venue. Use twitter to let people know of the event in time so that they can mark it in their calendar and even include a link of the venue that you will be holding it.

2. Provide tidbits about yourself – Keep letting your fans know about the good qualities of your books and yourself of course. Fans never mind hearing anything about their ‘idols’.

3. Give them micro-blogs – You have 140 characters to tell your readers anything that you can about yourself, your books and or your interests. Try to squeeze in as much as you can into these characters.

That is basically it about using twitter to promote your new book. Create a connection with the people who want to know more about you. Make your presence more visible to those who care and increase credibility for your work.
