Make Money Online Surveys – Are They Worth The Time?

Ever since the internet became a household word, people have been looking for ways to make money online. And, there have been many scam artists around, very happy to provide “opportunities” to work at home. Some of these are legit, others make money for the scammers. A popular scam is has ads all over the internet that simply state, “make money online surveys”.

Is it possible? Yes. There are survey companies that are valid companies with good reputations. They have been around for quite a while, and they do offer consumers the opportunity to take online surveys in exchange for what is, in reality, small sums of money. It is rare to be able to make the money touted by these scam artists all over the internet.

Most important, let’s define what a survey is. It is not a collection of useless “offers” you are instructed to take advantage of in exchange for making a few dollars. The few dollars that you might earn will probably never be seen because companies that promote these offers as surveys typically force you to have at least $50 in your online account before being able to make a withdrawal.

And, if you are ever lucky enough to get to that point, it takes another few months to see the money. You might be surprised, too, at misc. “administrative” fees that are taken out before you are paid.

A real survey is a consumer study that a company wants done in order to get opinions from a wide segment of the consumer marketplace for a product they are thinking about launching. They hire a survey company to formulate the questions and send them to their registered consumers in the demographics specified by the company. Sometimes registered consumers might get multiple surveys a day, or they may get one a month. It all depends on what demographics each survey is targeted to.

These surveys pay about $1. Some go as high as $4. Occasionally you will see one for close to $10, but qualifying for these is frequently difficult. All of them are time consuming, and most of them take at least a half hour to complete. Some people realize it’s not worth their time and energy to spend hours a day to make this kind of money. There’s always a chance, too, that you can spend a half hour answering questions and suddenly get an error box in front of you that says, “sorry, you don’t qualify”. You don’t get a penny for the time you just wasted.

One scam wants to sell you a list of online survey companies. Prices for this list are about $49 which is a waste of money. Online survey companies are easy to find. You don’t need to pay to find them. This same scam also promises outrageous hourly rates of $75 an hour – impossible. Google “online survey companies” and you’ll find many good ones to work with.

However, signing up with even the big names in the business won’t make you much money. You might earn enough for a few tanks of gas or some groceries, but in reality, $100 or so each month is pretty much what you can expect to make even if you do surveys for four or five hours a day. Most people do surveys just to pass the time. This is by no means a real work at home opportunity.

You need to keep very careful records if you decide to do this, because most of these trial offers require a credit card and they will start charging you automatically once the trial period is over. If you forget to cancel any of the offers, it will likely cost you more than you were paid to complete it. You also need to be very careful about filling out the offer forms. Sometimes there will be add-on offers that you have to cancel separately. Also watch out for check boxes that say you are agreeing to buy an additional product. Sometimes these are checked by default and you have to un-check them.

Many people ask whether Project Payday is a scam. That’s a good question. Project Payday does what it says it will do. It connects you with a community of people who will pay you to complete offers. In that respect, it is not a scam. However, if you look at it from the point of view of the advertisers that offer the free trials, they may be able to make a case that you are scamming them. After all, you are signing up with no intention of continuing to receive the product or service. That could be considered dishonest.

If you are a very organized person, you might be able to make a decent amount of money without getting stung by forgetting to cancel the offers before you are charged.
