A month has passed since I started college. Things have occurred that I never wished would. Events happened in my dormitory that I believed at first was a safe haven.

My most unforgettable experience so far took place a few weeks ago around midnight. Some guys burgled my room while I was in bed and the lights were off. I heard their hushed voices and was almost completely sure they were inside my room.

I opened my eyes subtly and my heart leapt after I saw two men moving about quietly, swiping my belongings straight into their bags. They must have thought I was sleeping. I froze but recovered fast and remembered my personal safety alarm.

What they did not know was that I had a key chain alarm with light. It was bought for me by my mother. This personal safety alarm is a home security item that would also protect me whenever I went out, she said.

I retrieved the key chain alarm with light from underneath my pillow, and the moment I got my hands on it, I pushed the alarm button found on top of the unit. The alarm was so loud that it woke everyone up. My alarm is small as a key chain but has a 130dB siren.

The robbers could not get away because my dorm mates arrived at my room before they could run. We contacted the cops and had them picked up.
