Most people assume that you have to be a super confident person to work in marketing. This may be the case when you are meeting clients face to face on a daily basis. Your employer would expect certain standards in your appearance and would, in part, dictate your approach to selling. However, in internet marketing you can build up your confidence behind closed doors and become confident in the area you are passionate about and forget about sucking up to the clients and smiling at and nodding to your boss through gritted teeth.
I have found that most women who work on a home based internet business have made an informed decision and have chosen to do so and with the correct guidance and information can become hugely successful.
1. FLEXIBILITY Many forward thinking and modern employers promote their business as a ‘family friendly’ company to entice women into working for their organisation. This all sounds ideal when you read their advertising and are convinced that they will understand the commitments that a family/husband/partner/grandparents/dog/school /childhood illnesses/minor emergencies/childcare can all bring when employing you. The problem is that they don’t or cannot really cater for your life. Mostly, their version of being family friendly is allowing you to take your vacation time during school breaks and a few days off a year for child illnesses. The only other real concession is flexi time, assuming you understand that flexi often means between 8am – 6pm!
Good all rounder You don’t often hear about most of the female population who just jog along being good ‘all rounders’. These quiet stoic figures make up the vast majority of women in our society. The reason they don’t appear to excel at any one thing, is that they are usually too busy multi tasking and trying to please other people. If given the sole task to concentrate on bringing up a family or to become employee of the month, or wife of the year, then we could all become champions in the area of our choice. If we were to take away the restraints and time spent working towards someone else’s success story, then life could be so different.
Money Matters ‘No one can live by bread alone’ and most people strive for financial security. Make no mistake, money is what drove and continues to drive successful entrepreneurs’. Happiness is important, but in my opinion, being happy and rich is where we want to be. Yes, more work is required to get there but once it is in your power to decide when and how you arrive at this destination, you will no longer count the hours. I have met many women who are working as Internet Marketers. Most of them make a decent living from their chosen career but there are others like myself, who have made a conscious decision to achieve substantial financial success. Personal satisfaction and a sense of achievement all attribute to a greater level of happiness.
She quickly realised that the internet was an open market and very soon decided on a career in this area. After extensive research she found a mentor who she trusted and could connect with and this proved to be the only necessary back up she needed. At first she worked in the evenings and weekends trying to get herself established in the world of internet marketing. She knew that this would be a good way to bring in an additional income which could supplement her loss of earnings in her full time job.
Debbie’s husband was well enough to help her navigate her way around this industry and together they made most of the usual beginner’s mistakes but learned from all of them. Success came slowly at first but after nine months of working two jobs, it became clear that this new ‘additional income job’ was growing to an extent where she was earning more in this area than her day job was bringing in. When she reached her target and became confident in her business skills, she was confident enough to resign from her job in the city and become her own boss. This involved long hours working from home but life had never been better. She was able to be there for her husband and by rescheduling her workload was able to accompany him to all appointments and they could spend more time together without the restraints of a regular job . Her husband is supportive and helpful in her new chosen career and he has benefitted by feeling useful again. He may only help her with administrative tasks, filing etc but together they have figured out a way to be in control of their own lives. Her advice to anyone facing similar circumstances would be to try it out on a part time basis and research the industry until you come across an area which you know would suit your skills. You may end up working more hours but these hours all add up to success and financial freedom.
